From a recent disaster recovery event - this is real business continuity!

On a client site with several servers, our Sempreon remote monitoring and alerting alerting system (RMM) notified us of a server hardware failure. Within 15 minutes we had pulled up the business continuity plan for the client, verified the critical nature of this server (could be without it for one hour), and verified with the client that the server hardware was indeed down.

We then booted up the latest recovery image of the server from the onsite DATTO business continuity appliance, remotely attached it to the client’s network, and verified that it was visible to all of the users. We verified that the client had returned to normal operations within 30 minutes of the server hardware failure.

Having some breathing room, and knowing that the physical server hardware which had failed was over 5 years of age, we recommended to the client that we use the DATTO backups to restore the server as a virtual machine onto a HyperV host server in the environment. After client approval (and after hours), we restored the recovered server (which was being backed up as it continued to run as a recovery VM) to the host server. The recovered server had all of the up to date data which was backed up since the hardware server failure.
