In December 2024 Dolce Vita deployed DATTO Networking to a local Tulsa university study program. The system is designed to provide automated LTE failover firewalls, robust and self-healing wireless networking, automated cloud-managed power distribution, and a number of other features.
As in many parts of Oklahoma both weather and aging communications infrastructure can result in periodic Internet outages. This is extremely impactful for organizations with Google or Microsoft cloud infrastructure. DATTO firewalls with LTE-failover mitigate this impact by seamlessly transferring Internet traffic over to LTE…this process occurs automatically and normally is relatively unnoticed by users thus maintaining productivity.
DATTO switches provide full features including Power Over Ethernet (PoE). The PoE budget is substantial and is sufficient to provide power to wireless access points as well as a full suite of other university-common PoE devices such as PoE cameras, room schedulers, displays, wallboard consoles and other IoT devices. These switches have the capability to document what is connected to each switch port, and to manage each port’s settings separately. If a PoE room scheduler were to develop an issue and require a power-cycle (turn off/on), this can be done easily from the switch simply by locating the notation for the affected device and power-cycling that port.
The switch capabilities regarding Layer 2 management means that multiple networks (both wireless and wired) can be easily supported, allowing for different staff, student, guest, and Internet of Things (IoT) networks to be used.
The DATTO wireless environment is robust and includes self-tuning of radio channels and power which vastly reduces an admin’s effort and which keeps the wireless running at peak efficiency for users. DATTO WiFi 6 wireless includes self-healing mesh which ensures that if an access point goes offline, adjacent AP’s will take over with automated adjustments to eliminate user impact. DATTO wireless is also highly secure, using advanced encryption and access control lists to allow ONLY those devices which are authorized to connect. The self-optimization provides your users with an exceptional wireless experience. In addition the administrator gains thorough insights into traffic and connection which enhances their ability to plan for expansion as your facility grows.
Dolce Vita also uses DATTO Managed Power with secure cloud-managed power distribution units (PDU) either 6- or 12 ports in size. Managed from the same console as all other DATTO Networking systems, Managed Power allows the admin to remotely power-cycle specific devices. This can be done on-demand or on a set schedule. In addition DATTO PDU’s can be configured to automatically power-cycle specific ports…this is handy in cases where a cable modem (or other device) has to be power-cycled. When configured to do so, if internet connectivity is lost for a specified period, the configuration will power-cycle specific ports automatically, which acts to clear errors and get devices operational again without going onsite.
In short, DATTO Networking has proven to be an exceptional solution, bringing enterprise quality and management tools to small and mid-sized businesses.
