The "new" Twitter is an even bigger playground for scams and disinformation
New Twitter
The new Twitter is an open playground for scams and disinformation. Due to the ease with which a “blue” verification can be obtained, without any need to provide actual verification information is already a source of major problems and risks. The lack of proof of identify or fact-checking makes the “blue check” a useless feature which can make an account appear to be authentic and authoritative.
This means that a cybercriminal can easily pose as a business or an individual using an impersonating Twitter account. Accounts which impersonate official support accounts (i.e. for airlines, etc.) make it easier for bad actors to steal identity, rewards, or credit card information. In addition it is easier for threat actors to simulate and manipulate online discussions and discourse.
The lesson? For now avoid the use of Twitter for business operations until the “new” Twitter can figure out better ways to secure and authenticate the environment.
